"I Think I've Been Paying Too Much Tax for Years."

Missed deductions and poor timing are common. We review recent returns, amend them where the law allows, and set up a plan so next year's tax is lower for the right reasons.

"My Personal and Business Tax Are Handled by Different People."

That's how things get missed. One CPA-led team looking at your personal, business and family entities together means nothing falls between the cracks.

Tax Accountant Sydney: Quick Answers

How much does a tax accountant cost in Sydney?

Fees depend on complexity. A straightforward personal return costs much less than a company or trust return with BAS and tax planning. SAQCH Partners quotes a fixed fee before starting, and the cost of managing your tax affairs through a registered tax agent is generally deductible the following year.

Is it worth using a tax accountant instead of lodging myself?

For a simple salary-only return, lodging yourself can be fine. Once you have investments, rental property, contractor or business income, a trust or company, or an ATO issue, a CPA-led tax accountant usually saves more in deductions, time and avoided penalties than the fee.

Can one accountant handle my personal and business tax?

Yes, and it's usually better. When the same team prepares your personal return and your business, company or trust returns, income and deductions are allocated correctly across entities and tax planning covers the whole picture.

When is the best time for tax planning?

Before 30 June. Once the financial year ends, most opportunities to change your tax outcome, such as timing income and expenses, making super contributions or deciding trust distributions, have passed. We recommend a review in May or early June.

Where are you based, and do you work across Sydney?

Our office is at Level 14, 3 Parramatta Square, 153 Macquarie Street, Parramatta. We work with clients across Greater Sydney in person, online and by phone, and have local pages for many suburbs.

Time to get a tax accountant if…

  • Your tax affairs now include investments, a business or a trust.
  • You've never had anyone plan your tax before 30 June.
  • You received an ATO letter or audit notice.
  • You suspect earlier returns missed deductions.

What Does a Tax Accountant in Sydney Do?

A tax accountant handles three jobs: compliance, planning and representation. Compliance means accurate tax returns and BAS lodged on time. Planning means reviewing income, deductions, super, asset purchases and entity structures before 30 June so you legally pay less. Representation means dealing with the ATO for you on letters, amendments, payment plans, reviews and audits.

Need something specific? See our pages on personal tax, capital gains tax and R&D tax incentives, or find a local page for your suburb below. Our tax agent registration can be checked on the Tax Practitioners Board register.

How much of a mixed-use expense can you claim?

Deductible amount = total cost × work or business-use percentage

Example: a $1,200 phone plan used 60% for work gives a $720 deduction. The percentage must be reasonable and backed by records, such as a four-week diary of use. The private part is never deductible.

Tax Accountant Sydney FAQs

Answers on personal and business tax returns, amendments, deductions, BAS, tax planning, ATO reviews and choosing a tax accountant in Sydney.

12 questions

A tax accountant prepares and lodges personal and business tax returns and BAS, plans tax before 30 June, advises on structures and deductions, and represents you with the ATO for letters, amendments, payment plans, reviews and audits.
For most individuals with simple tax affairs, the ATO generally allows amendments within two years of the notice of assessment. For many businesses and people with more complex affairs, the period is generally four years. We check which applies before amending.
Common misses include work-related expenses with poor records, home office running costs, investment property depreciation, tax agent fees, income protection premiums paid outside super and the cost of managing investments. Every claim needs evidence.
Most people use the ATO's fixed-rate method, which requires a record of the actual hours worked from home, or the actual cost method, which needs detailed records of each expense. We help you choose the method that fits your records.
Yes. We prepare company, trust and partnership returns and financial statements, and review trust distributions, director loans and franking before lodgement.
Legal tax planning uses the rules as intended: claiming every deduction you're entitled to, timing income and expenses sensibly, making use of super contributions, and holding assets in the right structure. It never involves hiding income or artificial arrangements.
Contact your tax agent before responding. We confirm the scope, gather the records, prepare clear explanations and deal with the ATO on your behalf, which keeps the process focused and reduces the risk of misunderstandings.
Yes. We bring outstanding lodgements up to date, work out what you can afford and request a payment plan from the ATO. Acting early usually gives you more options.
If you're carrying on a business as a contractor, you generally need an ABN, and you must register for GST once your turnover reaches $75,000 a year. We check how your income should be reported.
Search the Tax Practitioners Board public register. Only registered tax agents can charge a fee to prepare and lodge tax returns or give tax agent services.
Your income details or myGov access to pre-fill data, receipts and records for deductions, investment and rental statements, details of any assets sold, business accounts if relevant, and any ATO letters.
Yes. We have local pages for Parramatta, Bankstown, Auburn, Baulkham Hills, Liverpool, Blacktown, Castle Hill, Strathfield, Ryde and Macquarie Park, all served from our Parramatta Square office.
