Nobody withholds tax from your income, so it builds up. We set up PAYG instalments and a set-aside plan so tax is spread across the year.

Blacktown Business Tax and Payroll Questions

How much does a tax accountant cost in Blacktown?

A sole trader return with BAS is priced differently from a business with employees, payroll and super. SAQCH Partners agrees a fixed fee before starting, and payroll set-up for a first employee is a one-off fixed price. Fees for tax advice from a registered tax agent are generally deductible.

What do I need to do before hiring my first employee?

Register for PAYG withholding, set up payroll software that reports through Single Touch Payroll, get a TFN declaration and super fund details from the employee, arrange workers compensation insurance, and check the correct award and pay rate. Then report each pay to the ATO on or before payday.

How much super do I have to pay employees?

The super guarantee rate is 12% of an employee's ordinary time earnings. Super must reach the employee's fund by the required due date. If it's late, you may have to pay the super guarantee charge, which isn't tax deductible.

How do sole traders pay tax during the year?

Sole traders don't have tax withheld from their business income, so the ATO usually puts them into PAYG instalments after their first return shows enough business income. Instalments are paid through your BAS or an instalment notice and credited against your final tax bill.

Is my worker a contractor or an employee?

It depends on the real working relationship, not just what the contract says or whether they have an ABN. Factors include who controls the work, whether they can delegate it, and whether they're paid for results or for their time. Getting it wrong can mean unpaid super, tax and penalties.

Get in touch if you…

  • Are hiring your first employee or apprentice.
  • Pay workers as contractors and aren't sure that's right.
  • Haven't paid super on time, or at all.
  • Are a sole trader with a large tax bill each year.

How a Tax Accountant in Blacktown Helps Small Employers

By getting the employer obligations right from day one. Blacktown has thousands of small businesses, many of them sole traders taking on their first staff. Hiring brings new obligations at once: reporting every pay through Single Touch Payroll, withholding tax, paying super on time and checking whether workers are really contractors. Mistakes in these areas carry penalties that aren't tax deductible.

We set up payroll in Xero or your existing software and review it each quarter alongside your BAS. Our tax agent registration can be confirmed on the Tax Practitioners Board register.

How much super do you pay for an employee?

Super guarantee = ordinary time earnings × 12%

Example: an employee on a $65,000 salary means $7,800 a year in super on top of their wages, or $150 a week. Paid on time, it's tax deductible. Paid late, you may owe the super guarantee charge instead, which includes interest and an admin fee and is not deductible.

Tax Accountant in Blacktown FAQs

Answers on Single Touch Payroll, TFN declarations, workers compensation, late super, payroll tax, sole trader tax and personal returns.

12 questions

Single Touch Payroll is how employers report each employee's pay, tax withheld and super to the ATO every time they pay. Most payroll software, including Xero, does this automatically once it's set up.
It's the form a new employee completes so you know their tax file number and whether they're claiming the tax-free threshold. It tells you how much tax to withhold from their pay.
Most NSW employers must hold workers compensation insurance through icare or a licensed insurer before the employee starts. It's separate from your tax obligations but part of being a compliant employer.
You may need to lodge a super guarantee charge statement and pay the shortfall, plus interest and an administration fee. Unlike on-time super, the charge isn't tax deductible, so fixing it quickly limits the cost.
Yes. Payday Super reforms are moving employers from quarterly super payments towards paying super at the same time as wages. We keep your payroll set-up in line with the current ATO rules.
Payroll tax applies once your total Australian wages, including those of grouped businesses, exceed the NSW threshold, currently $1.2 million a year. We monitor wages as you grow so you register on time.
When your GST turnover reaches, or is expected to reach, $75,000 a year. You can register earlier voluntarily, which lets you claim GST credits on business purchases.
Yes. A sole trader can employ people and has the same employer obligations as a company, including PAYG withholding, super and Single Touch Payroll reporting.
It can make sense as profits grow or when you want limited liability, but it adds costs and reporting. We compare the tax under each option using your actual figures before you decide.
Yes. We prepare individual tax returns for employees and families in Blacktown, as well as business and sole trader returns.
We help clients in Blacktown, Seven Hills, Mount Druitt, Rooty Hill, Doonside, Quakers Hill, Marsden Park, Riverstone, Kings Langley and across Western Sydney.
Yes. SAQCH Partners is a registered tax agent and can lodge returns, BAS and super guarantee charge statements for you. Our registration can be checked on the Tax Practitioners Board public register.
